Test cricket has brought to us some stupendous matches of all time. You just cannot forget those nerve-wracking draws and massive bowling explosions. 2020 marked the 17th anniversary of the Windies completing the highest run chase in test cricket, a record which stands to date. As a tribute to these fantastic players, we have compiled a list of 6 extraordinary run chases in the history of the test match. 

South Africa vs. Australia – Perth (2008)

This test match which took place at WACA Ground in Perth has always been considered one of the most epic ones in cricket history. South Africa needed over 400 runs to secure a win. It completed with splendid contributions from Graeme Smith and de Villiers, as one of the most memorable test chases in cricket history.

India vs. West Indies – Trinidad (1976)

In the early 1970s, the West Indies were the most daring teams in the cricket world. Whenever Sir Vivian Richards and Clive Lloyd went in the cricket field for the line-up, with Michael Holding in-charge of bowling, no team went on the field without fear. However, the Indian team with players like Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanat completed the highest-run chase at that time in 1976 against Windies. 

India vs. England – Chennai(2008)

India completed their second-highest run chase in the 2008 tour against England in Chennai. They resume the final fifth day in the chase of 387 runs. Marvelous players of Indian teams such as Gautam Gambhir and Virendar Sehwag laid the foundation for Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh for a glorious victory.

West Indies vs. Australia – Antigua (2003)

It is so amazing that this run chase has been and still is the highest run chase in test cricket to date! This glorious match notched up to 418 runs by West Indies with mind-blowing knocks by Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Both the legendary batsmen hit hundreds and secured a three-wicket victory against Australia. 

Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka – Sharjah (2014)

How far can one go with awesomeness? This match was one such instance with the most breath-taking moments ever. Azhar Ali and Misbah-ul-Haq helped Pakistan with 109 runs, winning the match with over 1.3 overs left! It was the fastest 300-run chase in the history of cricket.

West Indies vs. England – Lord’s(1984)

West Indies holds the record for the fastest 300-run chase with the loss of just one wicket. The esteemed players Gordon Greenidge who scored an unbeatable 214 off of 242 balls and Larry Gomes’ with amazing 92 off of 140, helped Windies score 344 runs in just 66.1 overs. 

It has always been consistent efforts and hard works that make such legendary players achieve such feats.
